19 Weeks & Counting...

down to our ultrasound! We cannot wait until April 2nd -- is it here yet?

So, I'm 19 weeks and expanding. Today we went out and bought me a new pair of workout pants... otherwise all is still good in the wardrobe department.

Here's what's going on in there -- a lot this week!

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom - about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Just in case the baby had been able to hear, Dan and I have both been talking to him/her saying good morning and good night. I bet the baby will especially enjoy all the singing at church! (And the music we play for a living)! As of this week I've gained 6 pounds, steady about a pound a week. My cravings have shifted from red meat (although I still enjoy it, I don't feel like I "need it NOW!") to breads and pastas. Still haven't been overwhelmed by craving sweets, these days I'd prefer a pickle or an orange. I guess that's good. I hope that trade of stays with me post pregnancy. We're still looking into child care. It's a slow, tedious process. We have two interviews set up before April, both likely willing to watch our baby at 4:30 a.m.! We're hopeful we'll find the right person who can accommodate our schedule. That would be a huge weight off. I think I might cry when that happens.

Other than that, we've had a BUSY week at work once again. We just can't believe how busy we are during the notoriously "slow" season. DJ's had a rough week. He and his girlfriend broke up. They're still talking a bit and I think he's hopeful they'll get back together. We just want to see him happy. It's been tough seeing him so down this weekend. Heartbreak is a tough pill to swallow. Starting Monday or Tuesday he is going to look for a part time job at one of the shops/stores in the strip mall by our house. There's lots of options and it will be good for him to work 12-20 hours a week. Plus, once he starts driving, he's going to need to help with insurance and gas. Too bad it's not 99 cents a gallon or less like it was when I was 16. $10 filled the tank. Now it's more like $40.

The weekend was nice and mellow. Friday night I was in bed before 10 and the boys were up late doing their 24 marathon. (They had 3 episodes to catch up on). Then on Saturday Dan and I got up around 9, hung with the dog, watched a few shows, cleaned and then did some exercise. He took Maddie for a 4 mile run while I did the pregnancy yoga DVD my friend Jess mailed me. I enjoyed it and think it will be helpful during labor/delivery. I felt good all day and so relaxed I took a nap with Maddie who was EXHAUSTED to say the least from her run. When she got home she plopped down by her water bowl and didn't move for a few minutes.

Then, she just sprawled out on the floor and panted for about 25 minutes. Poor thing. She was stiff and achy afterward.

After my nap I got up, got dressed up and Dan and I headed out for date night. (Got to enjoy those while we can)! We headed to Dave & Busters for dinner and games. It was a great time. I had the BBQ pork sliders and Dan had a burger. Fantastic! Then, we played tons of games.

We played basketball, air hockey, bowling, trivia, PAC-MAN, raced motorcycles and race cars and he even tried to win me a stuffed animal in the oversized grabber game. He got so close -- but no tiger for me. It was a fun night.

Today's been restful -- and we're excited about trying our new recipe for chicken in the crock pot! It's been marinating and cooking all day and smells great -- let's just hope it tastes half as great! Dan also went on a 10 mile run while I read my book club book at a coffee shop. I've tried and tried, but I just can't get into this book I'm supposed to have read by Thursday. Oh well, I guess I don't have to finish it. Just seems like a waste of $10.

We've got a bunch to look forward to. In about 10 days my friend Kelly is coming to visit from Madison with her little one, Olivia. Then, not even 5 days after that my mom will be out here through Easter! Then, it will be April & hopefully warmer! (Although, we've been in the 40s and 50s, so it's hard to complain)! All the snow has pretty much melted except for small piles that used to be monster piles.

Hope all is well. Oh yeah, and we registered Dan for the Madison Marathon over Memorial Day weekend -- he's very excited!
