Happy New Year!

Wow, 2010 is here! We had a nice, quiet new years. One new year's eve we emceed a fireworks display in downtown, which was spectacular and followed that up with a yummy dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Then, a quiet night of King of Queens reruns, watching the ball drop and toasting the new year! Then, the first four days of 2010 for me started off with a cold. But, it was a mild one and nice to be grounded to the sofa, pajamas and lots of movies and TV! DJ spent the New Year in Pasadena and arrived home Monday morning. He had a blast -- more of which is to come.

Winter is also here! DJ was supposed to go back to school today, but, you guessed it, a snow day! And, they'll probably have one tomorrow and Friday because of the snow, blowing snow and FRIGID temperatures. Can you say high of zero followed by a high of -4? Brrr! So far we've had about 34" of snow in Omaha -- WAY more than average, considering the SEASON average is only 28". It's been extraordinary to say the least. We can no longer see the fire pit in our back yard. (And this was taken two weeks ago).

Thinking we could handle a few inches at a time, we went to Walmart and bought a shovel. Ha! Mother Nature is having a good laugh at that one, and Dan trying to shovel the first 4-6" we got.

We knew early on we have GREAT neighbors, but once our neighbor Mark offered to let us use his snow blower -- we jumped with joy! (And so did Dan's back, which he threw out the first time shoveling). We've had 2 blizzards since -- one time we snow blowed -- and the other time our neighbors did it for us while we were gone in AZ. How AWESOME is that? We are so lucky!

Speaking of AZ, we had a great trip! The four of us, DJ, Becca, me and Dan all flew out a day ahead of schedule for our Christmas vacation. The weather was forecast to turn VERY nasty, so our boss told us if we could catch and earlier flight to do it! So, we did. We made it with only minor delays and met up with my folks and brother shortly after 8 p.m. AZ time. It was nice to be home! The following day Alex flew in from Vegas, so the whole clan was together for Christmas eve, Christmas day and the following day. Here's a picture of all 3 kids, well 2 kids and 1 adult, Alex just turned the big 1-8!

More pictures and details to come...
