I think the news has finally sunk in for us! We found out the Saturday after I turned 30. Three pregnancy tests later we believed what we were seeing and began to celebrate together. We hugged and cried, so happy!
Since then, I've done some blood work, which points to a normal, healthy pregnancy. We got an ultra sound to find out exactly how far along we were, which was 13 weeks on Sunday and also got to see the baby's heart beating, which was amazing. After that we saw the nurse practitioner who was very sweet and answered some of our questions. Then, we had our first appointment where we met the doctor last Monday. She's GREAT! We just fell in love with her. She knowledgeable, thorough, kind, patient and takes her time with us. We also got to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time. That was amazing. She joked that since the baby was being ornery about us finding the heartbeat, that it must be a boy and that he must be a marathon runner like his dad. Of course, we won't be finding out until 21 weeks, but the heartbeat is very strong at 160 beats a minute. It was really neat to hear another heartbeat inside of me! I also found out I've lost three pounds, which I guess isn't all that unusual in your first trimester, although I haven't been sick. Plus, we've been eating VERY well and working out 4-5 times a week. I'm already starting to show, so we've bought a few maternity dresses and the belly band, which lets me stay in jeans longer than usual, by covering up the fact that they won't button or zip.
Our next appointment is in February, then following that will be our 21 week appointment where we found out whether we're having a boy or a girl. We both want to find out, and since my mom already had planned a trip out here in March, she changed her flight so she could come to the appointment with us. That will be very special. I think we may also find some time to go crib shopping! Until then it's just relaxing and trying to stay healthy. I've been sick twice now, once after getting the H1N1 shot and now that Dan gave me his cold from last week. At least now that I'm past my 12 weeks I can take Sudafed. And WOW is that helping.
DJ had a band concert on Tuesday night. It was a concert with the high schoolers and the incoming 8th graders. They all sounded wonderful and I got this picture of DJ -- can you pick him out of the crowd?
So, otherwise it's a pretty chill weekend. Dan had a remote today and DJ got all gussied up to take his girlfriend Kaylee to the Winter Bash at his school, which is also a fundraiser for the band. She came by before they headed out for pizza with a group of friends and we snapped this shot!
That night Dan, me and my tissue box hung out on the sofa with Maddie and watched a movie. It was an early night for me. DJ ended up getting home early too. They had a live band at the dance, which the kids didn't like so well, so they left early. But, DJ said he had a good time and busted a move or two!
Sunday was more mellow, some cleaning and now I'm finally feeling better! Thank goodness.
