And here it is, in all it's glory! It actually didn't light right away... but fortunately they got it after only a couple more countdowns.

That night I filled the house with smells of pumpkin bread and then Dan and I finished watching an episode of Mad Men. The next morning, it was up bright and early to head south to Kansas City. We dropped Maddie at the kennel and were on our way. The drive down was pretty quick and we found our hotel with ease.

We checked in to the Westin hotel, which was lovely, and then walked over to the Power & Light district.

It was very impressive. Our first stop was at Lucky Strike Bowling Alley in the district. It was more like an upscale lounge than bowling alley, which made it very cozy! Instead of hard plastic chairs, we sat on suede sofas with coffee tables. Dan thought he was being SO cute with naming our game...

In case you can't see it was Dan vs. Thirty. Isn't he CUTE? He ended winning... 137 to 130. We celebrated his win with some fantastic Bar-b-q pizza. From there... we headed into the plaza area of the district and were amazed at it's size and the fact that it had dozens of heaters up top, fire pits, sofa's and a big screen with the game on it. Take a look!

After that we wandered through the district, made a dinner reservation and stumbled across the coolest movie theater we had ever seen! We bought two tickets to watch "The Box" and headed up to our box suite for viewing. The seats reclined, we had trays and a call button for our server!
He was great and even brought me a complementary glass of champagne and a bowl of popcorn for my birthday!
After that we caught a cab home, took a nap and then headed back for dinner at Ted's Montana Steakhouse. It was fantastic!
We then his the plaza area for some more people watching and then called it an early evening at 10:30. I am old. Thanks to Dan for planning such a wonderful birthday surprise in KC! We're excited to go back.
The Arthurs.
