To update you from last night... Dan cooked a phenomenal dinner, which we ate while we watched a movie! Yep... we DID end up watching Gone With the Wind... all 4 hours of it! It's one of my favorite movies... I even read the book in college... all 1064 pages! (Dinner was perfectly done filet minon with mashed potatoes and vegetables! We even had a strawberry smoothie for desert! Aren't we healthy)? Onto the movie!
It took Dan a good half hour to "get into" the movie. He couldn't get past some of the scenery and the cheesiness of some of the music and cinematography style of the film. But, once he did, I think he actually liked it! Now, he won't admit this to you... EVER... because that would involve him temporarily handing over his "man card." But, here's why I think he liked it. About an hour into the first tape, (yes, we watched it on VHS) I told him we didn't have to finish it, that I would watch it on my own on Tuesday. He said no... quickly. Then, when I pressed him, he kept saying no, we could finish watching it. Then... when the movie was over... he couldn't believe it. He was stunned at how it ended and (I think) could have watched a little more it had had a happier ending. I forgot how devastating the ending is to a first time viewer. I liked the ending. So fitting. We even talked about it before bed! It stuck with him, I think he enjoyed it! But again... this is just MY opinion. ;-)Onto today! This morning we BOTH got to sleep in (usually one of us has to get up before the other whether it's during the week or on the weekend) and Dan made us one of the best omelets we've ever had! Mmmm! It had cheese and Canadian bacon and jalapenos and Chulula! After b-fast we spent the morning lounging around the house with the kitty and then geared up for a bike ride. We rode into Verona, a neighboring town, and stopped to share a sub at Cousins Subs. That was a well deserved rest stop! (See, I'm almost happy to get back on the bike. And for the record, my husband did NOT want his picture taken. I obliged him THIS time. Although, I think he looks great in his riding gear)!
We filled our water bottles and then headed farther into Verona to take a look around. Since it was a new route for us, we had no idea we were going to encounter so many hills! I mean, going down hill is fine... it's the long, upward journey that isn't as much fun! But, we made it! We found a new route back to the house and ended up working out for about an hour and a half. Whew, that wiped me out!Dan had to head to work this afternoon for a few hours, but will be home about 6 o'clock. Since he left, I've been watching coverage of Hurricane Gustav and the GOP. Then, once Dan gets home, we're going to fire up the grill and have some healthy style brats and left over mashed potatoes! Then, it's more relaxing and enjoying the evening! Hope you too are enjoying your Labor Day!
