3 Day Weekend, Baby!

We are loving us our holiday weekend! This is reason number 128 that I prefer radio to TV. There was never a doubt we'd have this day off and every other holiday. No one works on holidays, unless they're remotes, in which case you're making a ton of money. Ahhh, loving life.

To catch you up... on Monday of last week, Dan took advantage of our media status to fly in a WW2 Bomber. They went up on a flight for about a 1/2 an hour.

He says it was a really cool experience. That night he and his friend Steve went to the sneak peak of Hangover 2. He really liked it and had a great "man" day.

Thursday night I went with my friend Sandi to see WICKED! We had dinner downtown first and then went to the show. It was amazing. I'd heard it was an incredible performance, but was worried it had maybe been over hyped. Not. at. all! I had no idea what to expect and loved every minute of it! The singing, the costumes, the storyline, it was all incredible! Wow! That's another perk of radio... free tickets to SO MANY THINGS!! (And, as you're about to read, meeting Taylor Swift).

Come Friday morning I was a little tired... but woke right up for our live broadcast from HyVee. Dan and I came up with the idea on Wednesday to do a live broadcast to help raise money for the Salvation Army's relief efforts in Joplin, Missouri and by that afternoon we had everything all lined up and ready to go. We cracked the mic's at 5:30 a.m. and by 9 a.m. had raised almost $1600!

It was so amazing to see how many people came down to donate to the Salvation Army. 100% of what we raised is going straight to Joplin. We're so proud to be a part of this community and to be able to use our jobs to do something good. We felt incredible about the effort and really proud of this community and our jobs. A great morning! Friday night we had a mellow night with DJ watching Friday Night Lights, my new favorite show. I am so bummed it got cancelled. Stoopid NBC, don't know how to keep a good show when they have one. But, since I've only been watching for a couple of seasons now... we're watching it from the beginning on Netflix, so we watched the pilot episode too.

Saturday was very mellow, we didn't do much of anything that day, I'm not even sure we left the house! Very relaxing. That evening Dan went down to Bryon's with our car so he could fix the brakes and roders. Thank goodness he was able to do that, saved us a few hundred bucks and the car is driving like brand new! I got all gussied up and Kelly and I headed to the Taylor Swift concert that night. Through work, we got to do a special radio appreciation meet and greet with Taylor. We met her in what she calls the T Room, T for Taylor.

Apparently she uses some of the curtain pieces and decor from her condo in Nashville as part of the set up. It was really quite beautiful.

She was just as sweet as when I met her almost 5 years ago in Madison. She's a hugger and gave everyone in the group a hug. We all got a picture and Kelly got some things signed for her nieces. Then, since her mom was on tour with her in Omaha, she asked her to take us on a backstage tour, which was really cool. We took a lot of great photos and even got to peak in her tour bus.

We got to see backstage where she does her 9 wardrobe changes, the dozens of guitars she uses and how everything happens below stage. We also saw the semi trucks and all the equipment the truck in. 13 tour busses and 21 semi's.

She also has some of the dresses on display that she's worn for different performances. Very cool!

Then, we got upgraded tickets to see the show, so we headed to our seats just in time to see her performance. It was really cool to see, quite theatrical.

We were really impressed. She was all over the place, did a few songs from the back of the arena, then her final song, Love Story she sang from a balcony that was hoisted around the entire arena. Very cool.

We didn't stay for the encore, we wanted to beat traffic. But overall, it was an amazing experience. Glad I went. We got home late and stopped by one of our neighbor's birthday party's before heading to bed.

Sunday was another mellow day. We slept in and then did our remote at Soaring Wings Winery with our VIP winners. It was way more fun that we'd thought it would be. 4 of our 5 winners showed up and we enjoyed wine, nice weather and some cheese and bread. We also got a tour of the winery, where they store and bottle the wine. We were only supposed to stay until 4, but were having such a nice time, we ended up staying until 5. Good times. We got home, relieved DJ of babysitting duties, played with Jackson and then put him to bed. Dan and I watched a few more Friday Night Lights episodes and then hit the hay by 10. DJ was out with his friends Seth and Shawn and was home by midnight. Graduation was over the weekend, so they went to a few parties. DJ's last day of school is Wednesday... then he's a big ol' stinky senior! Holy time flies batman!

Today is very mellow, nothing planned. It's windy and looks like the weather could turn nasty tonight... so we'll see. Happy Memorial Day.
