The Perfect Vacation

I actually went out of town, left on Thursday evening to see family and friends in AZ, while Dan and DJ enjoyed a nice "Man Weekend." I think it was well deserved and much needed on both ends.

I got to Phoenix about 6:40 p.m. to find my parents waiting to pick me up at the airport. From there we did a little shopping and had some dinner at Olive Garden. By then it was bed time, so we headed home for a good night's sleep. Friday morning I woke up WAY TOO EARLY for being on vacation. Dan was in at work, so I chatted with him a little and read my book until my dad rolled out of bed.
We hung out for a little while until Lisa came by to get in some exercise. Since it had cooled off a bit, highs in the low 70s for my visit, it was the perfect weather to get a brisk walk in. After that we changed into our bathing suits and got about an hour and a half of sun. From there, I took my mom out for a Mother's Day lunch at one of her favorite restaurant's, Sauce. I'd never been.
We ended up sharing a salad and sandwich, which were fantastic, along with tropical iced tea and good conversation on the shaded patio. It was nice to be able to take her out for Mother's Day, normally I'm not home around that time. We ran errands after that and then went over to the assisted living facility my grandfather is living in. I hadn't seen him in a while, but he recognized me and seemed to be in good spirits because of our visit.
We sat and talked a bit, watched AFV and he held my hand. It was very sweet, but hard to see him restricted to his bed. He's going to be 90 on June 7th, our 2nd wedding anniversary. I hope he lives to meet our baby boy. He seemed excited to see my baby belly.
After that my aunts and uncles and cousins came over for a yummy dinner at the house. It was so nice out, we actually sat on the patio. It got a little chilly when the sun went down, so we moved around the fire pit and enjoyed the conversation. Everyone stayed for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours or so and it was so great to catch up.

Saturday I woke up early, but not quite as early fortunately. Plus, my dad had already rolled out of bed, so we enjoyed breakfast and conversation together before my mom joined us. I also got a quick work out in before having to get in the shower to get ready for my baby shower. My dad dropped me off at Tia Rosa's just before 11:30.
We had our own little private patio in the back with tons of flowers. Kari and Lauren and my mom all helped throw me the shower and it was just perfect.
The decorations were adorable and I'm so glad so many people were able to make it. This was part of the decor and the gift Kari made me -- a diaper cake!
It was nice to catch up with some of the neighborhood ladies I seldom see, friends and my family once again. Here's Lisa and me... we're due 6 days apart!
Here's me, Lisa and Nicole whose due in about 6 1/2 weeks.
And here's me with Grandma Marlene!
And, the fam.
And, can I just say, that was my first time eating there and it was fantastic! Everything from the chips and salsa to the iced tea to the soup and salads were delicious -- and the service -- fantastic! We played a celebrity baby match game, which I was surprisingly bad at, we played the game where you lose your clothes pin if you say the word "baby" which I did well at up until it was time to open gifts.
And, Kari and Lauren had everyone sign a baby plate and then design us a bib for the baby with fabric pens. This was so neat!
All of the bibs turned out great and were so original. I loved seeing what everyone did! After that it was time for cake and presents.
The cake was fantastic and boy was our little man ever showered with wonderful gifts! He got lots of clothes, blankets, shoes and we even got our car seat, stroller, bouncer, monitors and pack n' play! He is going to be one spoiled, good looking baby! I was just overwhelmed by the wonderful things we got and so happy for all of the help. It was an amazing time and couldn't have been any more wonderful. I feel so blessed, already our baby boy is so loved.

After the shower Lauren and Kari came over to my folks house for a bar-b-q. It was fun to just all sit and catch up with them and hang with my folks! We talked and talked and talked and laughed and laughed and ate delicious burgers and talked and talked until it was time for the girls to head home and for me to get packed. It was the perfect way to end my visit.
The next morning after spending some time with Mom, we headed to the airport to get checked in. We shared a sandwich and iced tea before I boarded the plane and left just after 11 a.m. It's always so hard to leave, but it was good to get home and see Dan and DJ. I got home to a clean house, big hugs and a wonderful home cooked meal... just what I needed. Apparently they had a wonderful time too while I was gone. Friday night they went to the gym and played some basketball and returned home to grill out some steaks and potatoes. Saturday they slept in, played racquetball and repeated the grilling process. They also watched every King of Queens episode on our DVR and a few movies. Sounds like some much needed and enjoyable father/son time to me.
And, here's what's happening with baby this week -- 26 weeks.
The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air. And he's continuing to put on baby fat. He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take two to three days.
So, back to the grind. It's been nice to get back to work. So far so good. Today we got the muffler on our car fixed, got a work out in and went to a going away party for one of the nicest ladies in our building. We're sad to see her go. I don't think I've ever worked with someone so sweet. DJ's final band concert is on Thursday night and they have an awards ceremony on Monday. I cannot believe he's almost done with his sophomore year! That's just mind blowing. After that, he'll head to Vegas with Dan for Alex's graduation (which is also mind blowing) and then spend 3-4 weeks there with his mom, brother and sister, before he and Becca come back to Omaha in July. They've only got about a month left... time flies!
