What A Weekend!

Dan and I had a fun packed weekend... for sure!

On Saturday I hosted a baby shower for my friend Kelly and several girls at our house. We had such a wonderful morning, talking, playing games, hearing about Kelly's baby plans and watching her open so many wonderful gifts! Here's she and I and her growing belly! (I'd already called her Kelly-belly, which now takes on a new meaning)!

Isn't she cute!? She and her boyfriend Mark were planning on going to our wedding, but baby Olivia Elizabeth Miller Napier is due just 6 days before we tie the knot!

THIS IS JEOPARDY! at the Kohl Center in Madison and we got to go! Jeopardy airs on our station, so we got 4 VIP tickets to watch the final 2 tapings on Saturday evening of the College Championships! Dan and I were excited to go, but we weren't expected the SPECTACULAR time we had! The Kohl Center (where the Badger's basketball and hockey teams play) was transformed into the set you see, and a sea of Badger red! The UW marching band was there, along with cheerleaders and about 4,000 people! (Jeopardy usually only tapes in front of about 200 in LA).

The set had applause lights and huge screens to watch the game! The three students/contestants were very animated and fun to watch, it was hard to decide who to root for, although as you'll see if you watch the College Championships, I did have one reason to root on one of the contestants!

During the taping they actually took commercial breaks and Alex Trebek (who wears a lot of makeup, but still looks good for his age) would walk out into the audience and answer questions. Some good questions and some BAD questions, like "what's your favorite color?" Um, who cares! But someone asked him what was one thing he wanted to do and has not yet done? To which he replied, "sumo wrestling with Pamela Lee Anderson." That got a good chuckle.

The first taping went by fast. Then, the second taping was the FINAL show, which added the previous games money total to the final jeopardy. It was close. It came down to $400 separating first and second place! In fact, the third place contestant accidentally hugged the second place winner, thinking that person had won, when in fact, it the THE OTHER contestant! So, in true television fashion... THEY RE-TAPED THE ENDING!! Jeopardy crews brought up the audio leading into Alex announcing the winner and the had a DO OVER!

The other fascinating thing was if Alex would read a question and fumble a word, he would pause and then start over. His mistake would then be edited in post production! In one instance, he pronounced a name wrong, so at the end of the show had to re-read the clue twice so it could be changed in post production! I'd always wondered what they did about that!!

In conclusion to my essay on Jeopardy... we had a great time! I forgot to mention we went with two of Dan's co-workers, John and Steph. After the tapings, which were VERY EXCITING, we went to the Nitty Gritty for some burgers. It was a fun, fun night!

So, since we had such a busy day on Saturday, Sunday was MUCH MORE LOW KEY! After I came home from work we watched Good Morning Viet Nam. (A recommendation from my mom since Dan is going to re-enlist in the Army with their broadcast journalism/radio unit). We really liked it. Robin Williams was excellent. I'm sure most of you reading this blog have already seen the movie, but if not, it's worth watching. :-) Then we got dinner and watched 2 episodes of the Sapranos. We have never seen the series, so we're using our Netflix subscription to watch it from the beginning. So far, so good! It's unique. Then, after the episodes, we practiced our dance moves for the rumba, the waltz and the tango! Every time we dance, we both get such big smiles and such overwhelming feelings! It's really neat. I'm so glad we decided to do this together! Our third lesson is tomorrow night and our instructor is going to chose which of the dances goes with our song, so we can spend a little more time on that one!
