We think this made him happy. Then he made a wish, took a big breath and blew all of the candles out in one try!

A new silver trumpet! Just what he wanted... and picked out... but hey, Dan and I know nothing about them! It's a gift from us, his mimi and my folks, which he has already enjoyed playing several times! In fact, if he makes varsity band in Omaha, he might just get to play it at the Rose Parade this year!
After we stuffed ourselves with cake, we headed to see the new Johnny Depp movie, Public Enemies. We had wanted to see it at the Orpheum Theater on State... but because of a private engagement, they were showing it in the side stage room instead of in their main, modeled after an opera house theater. So, we decided to go the Star Cinema by our house and see the movie... a fitting way to say goodbye to Madison. We recognized a few locations from where they filmed here, like the capitol building, so that was cool. We all had a wonderful time together and DJ a very happy birthday.
Here's his take...
My birthday was GREAT! For my birthday dinner, Mish made a gooooood shrimp pasta. Then...we had a DQ ice cream cake. Holy moly that was good! I got some pretty great gifts. I got a new trumpet! My friend also sent me some trumpet concertos, which are VERY challenging, but very good for practice. I also got some very sweet cards from family. (And some money. Money, a trumpet, and music...what could be better for a trumpet player? Hehe). We also went to see Public Enemies, a movie that starred Johnny Depp. It was great. Originally, we had planned to see it at the Orpheum Theatre, but we couldn't for some odd reason. But, we went inside and looked around a little bit. It's HUGE! Anyway, I liked the movie so much, that one night when I was up really late, I even looked up some of the people portrayed in the movie (John Dillinger, Baby Face George Nelson, Melvin Purvis. I also looked up Bonnie and Clyde.) Well, that's it. So long for now.
